Dedicated to sustainability
We consider it our duty to use the resources of our planet in a responsible way. Sustainability is therefore one of the most important criteria for the selection of our suppliers.
We have resolved to continually develop and grow our sustainable practices; to promote fair labour conditions and a healthy and safe working environment for our suppliers’ employees; and to support the protection of the environment in the supplying countries. To achieve these objectives, we employ modern technologies and processes, help our partners become certified according to internationally recognised standards – such as Rainforest Alliance Certified™ – and support their participation in the Business Social Compliance Initiative (BSCI).
The Rainforest Alliance aims to:
- Conserve biodiversity
- Ensure sustainable livelihoods through ecological land use
- Promote socially responsible business practices
- Encourage value-driven consumer behaviour
In addition to our emphasis on integrated and environmentally friendly farming, COBANA takes care to ensure that all of our partners adhere to the prescribed social standards. For example, COBANA’s key suppliers have already based their operations on BSCI’s social development principles; the successive implementation of these principles at all other farming partners is planned.
BSCI advocates for the improvement of labour conditions throughout the entire supply chain, focusing on the following issues:
- No child labour
- Fair remuneration
- Collective bargaining rights
- Compliance with working hours laws
- Occupational health and safety
- Environmentally friendly production
